Tuba

Passionate about the tuba, Claudia Shassberger aims to break traditional stereotypes and showcase the instrument's versatility beyond its perceived "oom pah" role. She is an accomplished orchestral, chamber, and solo tuba player who aspires to establish a career as a chamber musician.

Claudia is originally from Elyria, Ohio. She graduated with honors from Interlochen Arts Academy in 2021. Claudia recently graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University in May of 2025 and is currently pursuing her masters at the Peabody Conservatory. Claudia is an experienced performer who has performed in Carnegie Hall and the New World Center. She became the first tuba player to win the Carnegie Mellon University Concerto Competition. Claudia has attended many summer festivals including Domaine Forget International Music Academy, Bayview Brass Quintet Seminar, and the Cleveland Trombone Seminar.

As a trailblazer for women brass players, Claudia has actively promoted inclusivity and diversity within the music industry. She aims to collaborate with and establish organizations that support women brass players. Claudia is also passionate about teaching the next generation of students. She was a Teaching Assistant at Interlochen Arts Camp working with passionate young musicians from around the world. Claudia hopes to continue this work and inspire the next generation of women tuba players.
